Broad holistic experience
Since qualifying in Aromatherapy Massage and Reflexology in 1997, I have worked as a self-employed Complementary Therapist in the UK and Australia. I have worked with key players in the public sector including the NHS and blue chip firms such as 3M delivering stress awareness workshops. I also taught therapies within diverse groups such as adults with learning difficulties, physical disabilities and women support groups, as well as teaching Reflexology to adults. I feel passionate about the benefits of Complementary Therapies and continue to train and develop my skills within this diverse area in order to offer the best service to my patients. Since 2002 I have been delivering baby massage courses to individuals and in group sessions. At this time I also started my journey and self-development within energy work and received my 1st Reiki Usui Rhoyo attunement. I came with my family to live in Sydney between 2003 and 2006 where I continued to offer Baby Massage to individuals and groups and also offered individual massage training to businesses. I am passionate about delivering the best service and treatments to my clients and have continued training within the complementary health field and attended professional development courses including; Stress Management With Touch Therapies, Vertical Reflex Therapy (VRT), Advanced Vertical Reflex Therapy, Hand Reflexology, Reflexology & Cancer Care, Communication In Health & Social Care and many more.
Specific holistic experience in cancer care
After returning to the UK in late 2006 I continued training within the complementary field and qualified in Craniosacral Therapy. At the same time I achieved my Reiki II attunement and went on to gain Masters/Teachers Level in 2010. In 2007 I was offered the post of Reflexologist at the Holistic Cancer Care Centre, within the James Cook University Hospital, UK. This was a ground breaking venture working hand in hand with the Oncology Department allowing complementary treatments to work alongside the conventional. All patients were undergoing cancer treatments including surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy. I delivered treatments on the chemotherapy wards and haematology wards as well as in the holistic centre. I found this work to be very rewarding and now I have returned to Sydney I wish to continue within this field as well as offering the benefits of complementary therapies through my practice Butterfly Touch Therapies.
MISSION STATEMENT
In 2002 while attending a women’s mentoring group I was asked to write what my contribution to life is. This is what I wrote:
To lovingly accept others,
Showing empathy and kindness,
Sharing laughter and fun
I know this is a simple answer and realise it may appear a light response to describe our contribution to life; however for me it does convey all I believe and I would like to explain.
My experiences giving complementary treatments in cancer care, to people with disabilities, patients with mental health conditions, highly stressed people and traumatised clients has shown me how important it is to be accepting and not judgemental. Complementary treatments are heart based so my intention is to always work with a person and whatever they need to overcome obstacles in their life; each treatment is truly individualised. Touch has a profound effect upon so many layers of a being; physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. I work on the principle that we are there to meet individual needs.
Through touch we trigger a series of responses; releasing of emotions, acceptance, calmness and many more. This allows a person to get back in touch with themselves, a re-claiming of mind and body.
The cycle of life may take us from tears to laughter and as a therapist I am honoured to hold someone’s hand through this process. My mission is to bring ease within dis-ease; to bring calm to a system filled with anxiety and trauma, as well as facilitating complete relaxation.
‘too often we underestimate
the power of a touch……….
all of which have the potential
to turn a life around’.
